Marquee Wedding Photography is always fun to shoot because they always make for a personal and unique wedding day and Kathryn and Andrew’s day was certainly that. I arrived early to the couple’s cottage on Andrew’s family farm to take some shots of Kathryn as she made her final preparations. Hair was done by Tracy Fleming and make up by Lisa Arthur and the final effect had Kathryn looking effortlessly beautiful. I then walked up to the Farm House to take some shots of Andrew before he headed off to church.
Kathryn and Andrew chose the pretty Donnottar Parish Church for their wedding ceremony. Dunnottar Church is situated in a small hamlet just to the south of Stonehaven and west of the extensive Dunnottar Wood. There is a long history of Christianity there, with a medieval church built on the site in 1297 the remains of which are still to be seen in the church’s Marischal Aisle.
After the ceremony I took some family and group shots at the church door before heading down to the pretty Stonehaven Harbour with Kathryn and Andrew for some portraits, then we made our way back to the farm where everybody enjoyed drinks on the lawn. I really wanted to get a group shot of everybody before they headed into the marquee for the speeches and the meal. So I climbed into a forklift bucket and was erected 20 metres into the air to take the shot. Luckily I’m not afraid of heights and I have to confess this wasn’t my first fork lift bucket shot (in case any of you were thinking that wedding photography is a glamorous job!)
The marquee looked amazing. I loved the split dance floor that lit up and the fairy lights in the ceiling. The table decorations were gorgeous. As for my favourite touch, well all I’ll say is that you always know it’s a farming wedding when there’s a bottle of whisky on each table. The wedding cake was stunning. It was as tall as the bride and groom and was the creation of the ‘Enchanting Merchants Company’.
After the reception meal and speeches Kathryn, Andrew and all of their guests danced the night away to one of my favourite ceilidh bands ‘Corra’.
A lovely couple and a traditional farm wedding filled with much love and laughter. Congratulations to Kathryn and Andrew for getting married and creating such a wonderful day for yourselves, your family and your friends to remember.
