I love shooting Balbirnie House Wedding photography at any time of year, but shooting Balbirne House wedding photography at Christmas is just magical. Fiona and Kevin chose the most perfect venue for their winter wedding. On the day Fiona got ready in one of Balbirnie’s wedding suites, an elegant room that was flooded with natural light to take some lovely shots of Fiona as she made her final preparations. (Can I just say, you know you’re in good hands when the organisation of a wedding includes putting the bridesmaids in matching pyjamas).
Fiona looked simply beautiful in her dress, with hair done by Linzi at Princess Cut Bridal Hair and make-up expertly applied by Jules C Smith. Fiona looked the essence of pretty understated elegance. Like something straight of a bridal magazine.Flowers at winter weddings are always more interesting and never more so than at Fiona and Kevin’s wedding. Kaylie at Oor Fleurs florist came up with some gorgeous creations. Chistine, Balbirnie’s wedding co-ordinator was on hand to ensure everything ran smoothly.
The ceremony was in Balbirnie’s orangery, which is a perfect room for a wedding ceremony. The light that flooded through the full length lunette Georgian windows gave me the chance to get some great shots of Fiona and Kevin as they took their vows.
After the ceremony we went straight outside onto the lawn for some group shots. Fiona and Kevin then braved the cold so I could quickly get some portrait shots of them. Organised Fiona had the loveliest coat to keep her warm.
Next Fiona, Kevin and their guests enjoyed reception drinks in the long gallery where there were casino tables to occupy guests. For guests who didn’t fancy a flutter, they could always look to the ceiling at the ‘tromples d’oeuil’ or ‘tricks of the eye’ that are painted into the coves of this atmospheric room.
After drinks everybody happily trooped down to the ballroom for speeches. Which were very well received, particularly as one of the best men had bought a life size cardboard cut-out of Kevin. I like it when speeches are done before the meal, it means the speech givers can then relax and enjoy the rest of the day nerve free.
A sumptuous wedding breakfast was served and enjoyed by everyone with accompaniment by the very stylish and talented Ritz Trio band. The wedding cake was made by talented family friend Tan Black.
After the meal we went outside for some shots with sparklers before everybody headed in for the first dance. Evening entertainment was provided by live band Goldstar. Whose vast repertoire went from Caleigh dancing, to classical to pop! Ensuring there was something for everybody on the dancefloor.
A gorgeous winter wedding for this gorgeous couple at a fantastic venue. Congratulations to Fiona and Kevin for getting married and creating such a wonderful day for yourselves, your family and your friends to remember.
