Greyfriars Kirk Wedding Photography – Scott and Katie

Greyfriars Kirk Wedding Photography is always a dream to shoot especially when you get to work with couples as lovely as Katie and Scott. But enough about Greyfriars Kirk weddings for now I’ll get back to that, let’s start at the beginning.

On the day I arrived at the apartment where Katie was getting ready so I could take some shots of her as she made her final preparations. Everybody was in good spirits (I couldn’t resist taking a shot of Katie’s dad with his ‘father of the bride’ mug!).  Katie looked amazing in her stunning lace dress, with hair by Angela Carr, make up by Bobbi Brown and her bouquet by Scentiments (Duns).

I then zipped over to catch up with Scott and his grooms’ party at The Sky Bar for photos before the ceremony. Everything was calm apart from a minor incident involving one of the best men having a shoe disaster (thankfully it all got worked out!)

The Sky Bar in Edinburgh is a stylish and contemporary venue set against the most amazing backdrop of the city. Katie and Scott had chosen it for its stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and the city skyline. Unfortunately, the window steamed up so we had to get staff to clear it after the ceremony. This caused a bit of laughter. We made our way out to the terrace and I took shots of Katie and Scott with the castle in the background while their guests enjoyed a drinks reception.

Weddings always have their own atmosphere and Katie and Scott set the tone of theirs by being the happiest and smiliest couple I have ever worked with, making my job so much easier and so enjoyable.
When we arrived at the reception I took some lovely autumnal portrait shots of Katie and Scott around the

Now if you hadn’t guessed already Katie and Scott had their reception at Greyfriars Kirk. There are so many reasons why I love shooting Greyfriars Kirk Wedding photography. Not only is it a landmark building in the heart of Edinburgh, grandly designed and rich in history. It is also an important heritage site and the resting place of many of Scotland’s most prominent citizens. But unlike many buildings of this kind as a wedding venue Greyfriars Kirk is very flexible so it’s always interesting to see what my clients have done with it.

Katie and Scott had arranged for the tables to be dressed exquisitely. Catering was provided by the very talented Steve Gauld at Braveheart Weddings and cakes were provided and beautifully displayed by friends and family.  Greyfriars Kirk is also a concert venue so has excellent acoustic which was just as well as after an impressive first dance by Katie and Scott, their band Callanish, offered up a mixture of ceilidh and contemporary music that had everybody up onto the dance floor and dancing well into the evening.

Great couples with great guests at great venues make for great weddings and I really enjoyed photographing this one. Congratulations to Katie and Scott for getting married and thank you for allowing me to tell the story of your very memorable day.
