Edinburgh weddings are always special and Nicola and Andrew’s wedding at the historic Signet Library was no exception. I love shooting weddings at the Signet Library. It is situated in the very heart of the historic old town, just a stone’s throw away from St Giles cathedral. It has the most gorgeous design, lined with classical pillars and casement bookcases. The room is surrounded by an upper balcony accessed via a grand sweeping staircase. The centrepiece of this magnificent venue is a classical cupola painting decorating the ceiling dome, which if I’d had the time, I could have happily studied for hours. With Signet library wedding photography I can honestly say that it is one of the most stunning and elegant venues I get to shoot weddings at.
I caught up with Nicola getting ready at the nearby Fraser Suites, an elegant boutique style aparthotel, and took some lovely shots of her getting ready with her bridesmaid and family members.
I then popped outside to meet up with Andrew and his grooms party (who all looked resplendent in traditional Scottish dress) to take some shots of them outside the historic St Giles Cathedral.
Nicola, who looked stunning in her gorgeous dress, was then led by her father to the ceremony. A lovely touch was that Andrew’s son Gregor piped them into church and up the aisle. Before the signing of the register they did a little thing of sand in a vase which signified the joining of two families. I always enjoy it when my clients add personal and unique touches like this. After the ceremony I made the most of the historic and beautiful location to take some great portrait shots. Including the front of St Giles cathedral and under the wonderful archways around parliament square. We returned indoors for the group and family shots before everybody happily went up the incredibly grand staircase to the upper library for speeches followed by the wedding breakfast. Catering was provided by the always perfect Heritage Portfolio.
Evening entertainment was in the form of live band Funktion Sweet who provided accompaniment for the first dance, and for lots more dancing afterwards.
A lovely friendly wedding in a simply stunning venue in one of the most romantic cities. Congratulations to Nicola and Andrew for getting married. I hope my images will allow you relive your day again and again for many years to come.
