Craigsanquhar hotel wedding photography
The award winning Craigsanquhar Hotel played host to the wedding of Laura and Zander. A quintessential Scottish Country house hotel with 36 acres of spectacular gardens and woodlands that make being a Craigsanquhar wedding photographer a dream venue to shoot weddings at and the perfect venue for this outdoorsy couple. Laura hired one of the spacious villas on the grounds for her, her mum and her bridesmaid to get ready in. The lodges are really lovely so it was the perfect place for me to take shots of Laura as she prepared for her day. The make-up artist was Karen Bowen (one of my favourite make-up artists to work with)
I then went outside to meet up with Zander and his grooms party (who all looked very handsome in traditional Scottish dress) and took some shots of them around the grounds and in front of the magnificent porch of the mansion house.
Laura and Zander opted for an outside wedding, which ought to be a safe decision in July! The chairs neatly lined up on the front lawn looked so inviting. I love the personal little quirks at weddings at this one it was the gorgeous flowers in old milk churns with their family farm name on them. They were so pretty.
The bridesmaid and Laura’s mum, and then Laura and her dad were transported from the lodge in a golf buggy before beginning their walk down the aisle. Laura looked beautiful in a fitted lace wedding dress with a low back and a full length veil. Giving her a look of effortless elegance. In typical Scottish style the day was slightly overcast and as soon as the ceremony started so did the drizzly rain. Laura was unperturbed and stuck it out so guests just popped up their umbrellas and we all carried on. After the ceremony we chose a sheltered spot under the tress for group and family shots. Laura and Zander were keen to get outside shots despite the weather so the three of us set off with an umbrella to take some great portrait shots around the outside of the mansion house and in the beautiful gardens.
Then it was back indoors to a warm welcome and the wedding reception. Another personal touch I loved at this wedding was the way the reception room was dressed. There were jam jars containing grains from last years’ harvest on Laura and Zander’s farm. Not only was this incredibly unique and personal but very pretty too giving the venue a lovely cosy, rustic and vintage feel. Speeches were made before the wedding breakfast, always a good idea so the speech givers can relax for the rest of the day. After which there was dancing to a traditional ceilidh band who had everybody up onto their feet until well into the evening. Thankfully the weather did clear up allowing all the guests to make use of the pretty courtyard in the evening. Which seemed a perfect way to end this special day.
A truly personal wedding in a gorgeous venue. Congratulations to Laura and Zander for getting married and creating such a memorable day for yourselves, your family and your friends to remember.
